As Vice President of Technology and Innovation for Clancy & Theys, Harry McKinney is always on the lookout for the latest advancement in software or the next steps in using the tools already at our disposal. In keeping with this philosophy, our drone program has been a successful resource in our Raleigh office that needed to grow across our other divisions. Harry wanted to be sure our Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) program is “Built on Safety,” so he turned to the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International’s (AUVSI) Trusted Operator Program (TOP).
As a part of this process, our Virtual Design & Construction Coordinator, Kyle Snyder, and Assistant Project Manager, Withe Lee, recently participated in the Level 2 Certification for the Trusted Operator Program (TOP). A program developed for FAA licensed drone pilots that provide hands-on pilot training, which is not a part of the licensure process. Receiving an FAA certification indicates that a pilot is familiar with federal aviation regulations. Achieving Level 2, TOP Operator certification further enhances Kyle’s and Withe’s level of professionalism and expertise in their use of drones and Clancy & Theys’ deliverable to our clients.
Both Kyle and Withe received their certification after spending 12 hours in class and working individually with a TOP certified instructor. The AUSVI TOP certification ensures that the pilot has a higher level of demonstrated knowledge, flight proficiency as well as safety, and risk management. The experience from both is parallel, “It was a remarkable experience; it allowed us to reinforce our current knowledge and enhance our techniques with the Unmanned Vehicle Systems,” said Kyle and Withe. Having the ability to adapt, embrace, and improve technological advancements is something that Clancy & Theys’ does best.
