During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re proud to share the story of Nayma LaBarca and the deeply personal work she pursues outside of her role at Clancy & Theys, using her creativity and lived experience to give back to women navigating life after breast cancer.
At Clancy & Theys, the impact our people make often extends well beyond the work they do each day. Across our company, team members dedicate their time and talents to causes that matter personally to them. For Nayma, a member of our Florida Division, that commitment takes a particularly meaningful form.
Outside of her role at Clancy & Theys, Nayma handcrafts medical-grade silicone nipple prostheses for women who have undergone breast reconstruction following breast cancer treatment. It is detailed, highly personalized work, with each prosthesis carefully crafted to reflect the individual she is helping. Recalling one woman’s reaction, Nayma shared, “Seeing her happiness when she looked at herself and saw how natural the prosthetic looked alongside her natural one was incredibly meaningful to me. Her joy became my joy!” For women navigating the physical and emotional changes that can accompany breast cancer treatment and reconstruction, her work can play a small part in helping them move forward with greater confidence.
Nayma developed her skills through specialized training in Spain, where she learned techniques for creating these customized prostheses. The process brings together technical precision and a deeply personal understanding of the women she serves. Today, she continues this work in her own time, using the skills she learned to help women in her community. What began as learning a specialized craft has become an important way for Nayma to use her time to give back.
Nayma explained, “I do this because I know how much our experiences can change the way we see ourselves. This is more than a business to me, it’s a way to give back, offer support, and remind the women that deserve to feel confident and beautiful.”
Nayma’s work is especially personal as a breast cancer survivor herself. Currently facing cancer again, she understands this journey through her own personal experience. That perspective gives the work a meaning that is both deeply personal and rooted in the impact it can have on others. As Nayma explained, “What means the most to me is seeing how something so small can make such a big different in a woman’s mood and outlook. Knowing that I can bring a little happiness into someone’s life is what makes this work so special to me.” That perspective has helped shape the care and attention she brings to her prostheses. Despite the challenges of her own journey, Nayma continues to devote part of her life outside of work to helping other women.
“I’m also very grateful to Clancy & Theys for the support and understanding they have shown me throughout my own health journey,” Nayma expressed. “Their support has helped me keep moving forward and I truly appreciate that!”
For those who work alongside Nayma at Clancy & Theys, her dedication to helping others outside the workplace reflects the same qualities she brings to her professional life: care, thoughtfulness, and a willingness to help others.
Clancy & Theys Employee Experience & Culture Manager Nikki Edmonds said, “Nayma’s willingness to go above and beyond her professional responsibilities shows that making an impact doesn’t stop when the workday ends. Her dedication is an inspiration to others and a meaningful example of how living our values can create a lasting, positive impact. Nayma embodies the values that make Clancy & Theys special, demonstrating that giving back isn’t simply something we do as a company – it’s a reflection of who we are as people!”
Nayma’s story is also a reminder that giving back does not always have to happen through a formal initiative. Sometimes it begins with recognizing a need, developing a skill, and choosing to use that skill to help another person.
At Clancy & Theys, stewardship is one of the values that guides us, and Nayma’s work offers a deeply personal example of what that can look like beyond the workplace. She has found a way to combine creativity and compassion to support women during an incredibly impactful chapter of their lives. We are proud to stand with Nayma as she continues her own journey and are grateful to share the meaningful way she chooses to give back!
