Faced with a tight deadline and unique needs, Valencia College selected Clancy & Theys as the construction manager tasked with building its new Poinciana Campus. Not only did Valencia College leaders want the campus to be ready for the fall 2017 semester, they had a vision of a campus that represented the predominantly Hispanic community’s culture.
Clancy & Theys worked closely with the design team from DLR Group on the three-building project, which also included parking and landscaped areas, to ensure there was a distinguishable tie between the campus and the community.
The project’s first building is a 64,000 square foot, three-story facility housing student services, administrative offices, conference rooms, a cafeteria, classrooms, a science lab and a culinary lab. Another building was constructed nearby to house the college’s Central Utility Plant.
The final building houses the 11,000-square foot Center for Accelerated Training, which offers flexible lab spaces that can be used to help meet the needs of the community.
Prior to the opening of the Poinciana campus of Valencia College, the community had one of the lowest rates in the state of Florida for secondary education for its students. This campus provides accessible, high-quality secondary education to the people of the Poinciana community.
This project was extremely memorable to the Clancy & Theys team. Not only did the team work seamlessly with other contractors and designers to meet tight deadlines and overcome significant challenges on this project, but we also helped provide new opportunities for students in the Poinciana community.
