Constructability Reviews
As part of the Clancy & Theys team-build approach, we use virtual design and construction technology to review the designers’ drawings and digital building models. We perform constructability reviews during the design development and construction document process. By performing these reviews early in the design process, it allows us to foresee any potential issues before they happen. Constructability reviews merge construction thinking into the design phase which give us confidence that the project will be built effectively and up to the Clancy & Theys standard.

Avoiding Conflicts with Technology
How does a contestability review work? The Clancy & Theys team performs automated “clash detection” and virtual walkthroughs, . During this process we identify issues that could add cost or negatively impact the schedule, we pass our findings on to the design team for review and resolution. This allows the designers more time to arrive at the best solution before construction documents are issued rather than to make a hurried response during construction. This check and balance system allows our design team to work collaboratively with other project stakeholders.
For example, please look at the image on the right. In this constructability review, we identified conflicts between rain drainage piping and steel beams during a preconstruction review. The architect was able to find a different route for the drainage piping and update the construction documents before they were issued to bidders. Had this issue not been found prior to bidding, cost may have increased and scheduling could have been delayed.
